Custom Forged Wheels for BMW M Cars: Fitment & Sourcing Guide

BMW M cars are among the most common custom forged wheel projects — and among the easiest to get wrong. Generation changes moved the M3, M4 and M2 from 5×120 to 5×112, brake packages differ in size, and most cars run different wheel widths front and rear. This guide lists what we check before quoting a forged wheel set for an M car, and what you need to send us.

Important: this page is a sourcing and specification guide, not a fitment guarantee. Every set is checked against your vehicle data and an approved drawing before production.

BMW M Reference Specifications (Confirm by VIN)

The values below are common reference points used to start a brief. Model year, market, trim and brake package can change them — confirm against the VIN, the original wheel markings or a measured hub.

Brake Clearance

M cars are offered with different brake packages, including M Compound and M Carbon ceramic brakes. Caliper size and shape vary by package, so a wheel design that clears one car may not clear another of the same model.

We check the spoke back-profile and barrel inner diameter against the caliper for the diameter you choose. Deep concave designs and large-diameter calipers need the most attention.

  • Brake package name (standard, sport, carbon-ceramic, etc.)
  • Caliper clearance template or caliper photo with measurements, if available
  • Minimum wheel diameter the brake package accepts
  • Spoke profile and barrel shape you want — deep concave faces need more checking

Load Rating and Vehicle Weight

M cars combine high weight with high cornering and braking loads, and the X5 M and X6 M are heavy SAVs. Forged wheels for these cars should be engineered to a load rating that matches the vehicle’s axle load, not to a generic figure.

Send the gross vehicle weight or axle load from the door placard. The target load rating is agreed per wheel size and confirmed on the drawing; where FEA or testing is in scope, the quotation states the inputs, the SKU covered and the report delivered. See load rating, JWL, VIA and TÜV explained.

Front/Rear Sizing (Staggered Setups)

Most current M3 and M4 cars leave the factory with a staggered setup — for example a 19-inch front and 20-inch rear on many G80/G82 cars — with wider rear wheels. Rotation between axles is then not possible, and front and rear wheels are separate SKUs with their own ET and width.

Square setups are possible on some cars, but the tire sizes, ET and clearance must be checked for each axle.

ET, Width and Center Bore

Send the stock ET and width from the original wheels, then the target ET. A lower ET pushes the wheel outward; combined with a wider rim it can affect fender and suspension clearance.

G-series M cars use a 66.6 mm center bore; forged wheels are normally machined hub-centric to that bore. Do not reuse F-series data (72.6 mm, 5×120) on a G-series car.

Use our wheel offset calculator, PCD calculator and center bore calculator for a first check, then send the numbers for review.

Lug Bolts and TPMS

BMW uses lug bolts rather than studs. Bolt thread, length and seat type must match the wheel’s seat design and hub thickness. Tell us whether you will reuse the factory TPMS sensors so the valve hole position and angle can be confirmed.

What to Send for a BMW M Forged Wheel Quote

  • Vehicle, model year, trim and market (VIN if possible)
  • Brake package and any aftermarket brake upgrade
  • Wheel diameter and width, front and rear
  • Target ET (offset) front and rear, and any spacers planned
  • PCD, center bore and fastener type (bolts, nuts or center-lock)
  • Tire size front and rear
  • Wheel construction: monoblock, 2-piece or 3-piece
  • Design reference, finish and branding
  • Quantity (sets) and destination country

MOQ, lead time and shipping terms are confirmed in the written quotation: MOQ by design, size, SKU, finish and packaging; some projects have a 20–25 day production target counted from confirmation of drawing, specifications, finish and production slot; DDP only after destination, importer of record, duties and taxes are confirmed.

BMW M Forged Wheel FAQ

Will one BMW forged wheel design fit both F- and G-series M3?

No. The PCD, center bore and bolt thread changed between generations, so each generation needs its own drawing and SKU.

Can you make wheels for M Carbon ceramic brakes?

Often yes, but only after the caliper clearance is checked for the chosen diameter and spoke design. Send the brake package and caliper details with your request.

Do you guarantee fitment on my car?

We review your vehicle data against the drawing before production. Final fitment is confirmed on the approved drawing and, where needed, a test fit.
