Tesla Model 3/Y Custom Forged Wheels: Fitment & Sourcing Guide

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y owners buy forged wheels to reduce unsprung weight, change the look and move away from factory aero covers. EV weight, instant torque, TPMS sensors and Performance brake packages make the specification different from a typical sedan project. This guide covers what we check before quoting and what to send.

Important: this page is a sourcing and specification guide, not a fitment guarantee. Every set is checked against your vehicle data and an approved drawing before production.

Tesla Model 3/Y Reference Specifications (Confirm by VIN)

The values below are common reference points used to start a brief. Model year, market, trim and brake package can change them — confirm against the VIN, the original wheel markings or a measured hub.

Brake Clearance

Performance versions of the Model 3 and Model Y use larger brakes than standard versions on many model years, and may not accept smaller wheel diameters. Always tell us the exact variant and model year.

We check the spoke back-profile and inner barrel against the caliper for the chosen diameter.

  • Brake package name (standard, sport, carbon-ceramic, etc.)
  • Caliper clearance template or caliper photo with measurements, if available
  • Minimum wheel diameter the brake package accepts
  • Spoke profile and barrel shape you want — deep concave faces need more checking

Load Rating and Vehicle Weight

Both cars carry a heavy battery pack, and the Model Y is heavier than the Model 3. The wheel load rating is agreed for the actual axle load, and tires with a suitable load index (often XL) should be used.

Send the gross vehicle weight or axle load from the door placard. The target load rating is agreed per wheel size and confirmed on the drawing; where FEA or testing is in scope, the quotation states the inputs, the SKU covered and the report delivered. See load rating, JWL, VIA and TÜV explained.

Front/Rear Sizing (Staggered Setups)

Many Tesla projects use square setups so tires can be rotated — useful given EV tire wear. Some Performance-style builds use wider rear wheels; in that case front and rear are separate SKUs with their own ET and width.

ET, Width and Center Bore

Send the stock ET, width and tire size for your variant and the target values. Wider wheels with lower ET can affect fender clearance and efficiency.

Model 3 and Model Y use a 64.1 mm center bore; forged wheels are machined hub-centric to that bore so no hub rings are needed.

Use our wheel offset calculator, PCD calculator and center bore calculator for a first check, then send the numbers for review.

TPMS, Lug Nuts and Efficiency

Tell us whether you will reuse the factory TPMS sensors so the valve hole can be positioned correctly. Tesla uses lug nuts on studs; the seat type and thread engagement are checked against the wheel seat design. Larger, wider wheels usually reduce range, so many buyers prioritise low weight over size.

What to Send for a Tesla Model 3/Y Forged Wheel Quote

  • Vehicle, model year, trim and market (VIN if possible)
  • Brake package and any aftermarket brake upgrade
  • Wheel diameter and width, front and rear
  • Target ET (offset) front and rear, and any spacers planned
  • PCD, center bore and fastener type (bolts, nuts or center-lock)
  • Tire size front and rear
  • Wheel construction: monoblock, 2-piece or 3-piece
  • Design reference, finish and branding
  • Quantity (sets) and destination country

MOQ, lead time and shipping terms are confirmed in the written quotation: MOQ by design, size, SKU, finish and packaging; some projects have a 20–25 day production target counted from confirmation of drawing, specifications, finish and production slot; DDP only after destination, importer of record, duties and taxes are confirmed.

Tesla Model 3/Y Forged Wheel FAQ

Is one set of drawings good for Model 3 and Model Y?

PCD and center bore are the same, but weight, tire size and preferred ET differ, so we usually quote separate SKUs or confirm one drawing covers both loads.

Will forged wheels fit Performance brakes?

Often yes at suitable diameters, but clearance is checked against the Performance caliper for the chosen size and design.

Do forged wheels improve range?

Lighter wheels can help slightly, but tire choice, width and aerodynamics have a bigger effect. We do not promise a range figure.
